Put A Laugh On It

Make it light.

Make it a joke.

They won’t take it seriously.

Or, so you think?

I coin myself as intuitive. Someone who can read others’ emotions. Read between the lines of their shared thoughts. Notice shifts in behaviors and facial expressions.

I also hate (sometimes) that I am an empath and take on others’ feelings, good and negative.

It wears me down.

More importantly, I am a good reader of character. Can generally sense good intent and lack thereof. It is seldom that I am wrong.

What I can’t take is people pretending.

Pretending to be my friend.

Pretending to be an adviser.

Pretending to understand and accept who I am.

Pretending that what makes me different from them does not rub them the wrong way.

I’m actually tired of picking up others’ feelings. *Jazmine Sullivan voice* Woo-woo-woo-ing their desires and needs, when they turn their noses up to mine. I’ve been shown way too many times, by people who I thought to be close, that I am not what they are to me, to them.

I also have to stop being a pretender.

Acting like I’m okay with the snide remarks. The side conversations. The judgmental eyes. The deliberate opposition when I speak.

I’m sorry (but not) that I am a direct reflection of what you’re not.

*shrugs*

Put a laugh on it.

Maybe they won’t be offended.

Til the drawing board flies,

Ella.
